Digital TV?
In Australia we go digital TV next year.
I am in a block of units. Will the distribution amp need replacing? It’s about 20-30 years old
What about the antenna – it doesn’t look in very good condition.
Lastly, we have 300 ohm coax running to the units and it has started to degrade – presumably this needs replacing.
Can an Aussie installer give a rough estimate of cost. It is an 8 unit, 2 story block in teh inner west. Concrete construction.
For an 8 unit 2 story, the cost in the USA would be around $1500 dollars. I don’t recall what the conversion rate is.

A digital multimeter is one of the most versatile and useful in your auto shop. It is important to have a good model and understand how to use it properly. A digital multimeter is actually three devices in one. It is a voltmeter that measure electrical potential across a device in volts. This is an ammeter which measures the amount of electric current through a device. This is measured in amperes. Finally, a digital multimeter is an ohmmeter that measures electrical resistance of a device. The electrical resistance is measured in ohms.
Today, modern digital multimeters are designed to be rugged and easy to operate. A good multimeter will have a tough plastic case and large, easy to use dials. The upper part contains the digital readout screen. This is something should check thoroughly before buying one. Make sure the screen is big enough to read it and be sure to see the reading of sunlight. It is likely that you will use this instrument to be in direct sunlight.
Below the digital readout is a big button called the function switch. The function switch lets you change modes operates in digital multimeter For example, you can easily switch to ammeter to voltmeter ohmmeter with the turn of the dial. A Again make sure the function switch is large and easy to operate. Most function switches have approximately eight positions. Most have three brands of measuring the voltage V. They measure AC, DC and low voltage currents in the millivolt range. Next there will be two positions marked with A and A ~ =. A ~ measures AC intensity in A and A = measures current in amperes. The results will be in milliamps because you are using the 300 mA terminal.
The third characteristic of a digital multimeter is its ability to measure to Ohms. Ohms is a measure of resistance in an electrical circuit. First disconnect all cables and energy sources of the device being measured. Now turn the function switch to the Ω position and connect your prospects. The red wire is connected to the terminal VΩ label and the black terminal connects to the COM terminal. The display shows OL. This is normal and means there is an overload. Now connect the wires through the device to measure Ohms.
These are the basic functions of a digital multimeter. Remember to turn your multimeter before storing it back in your toolbox. We do not want a battery drain the next time you need. There are several good brands on the market today. Fluke digital multimeters are probably the most popular and it will not go wrong with one.
