XM radio for a 2007 Ridgeline?

Hey my dad has a 2007 Ridgeline and on the factory radio it says XM radio ready. For Christmas i want to get him this XM radio active since they merged with Sirius. Anyways i was wondering what i need to buy/hook up to get this XM active? I dont think it has the antenna on top of the truck like i have seen some of the other models. Is this something i need to buy? Thanks!

this will do the job

An RFID tag is a small device that can be connected to or incorporated into a product and transmit data to a reader using radio waves. RFID tags have antennas that allow them to receive and respond to radio-frequency queries from an RFID transceiver.

RFID tags come in two varieties: active and passive. Active RFID tags have a built-in power supply, such as a battery and electronics that perform specialized tasks. By contrast, the labels Passive RFID does not have power and must rely on the power emitted by an RFID reader to transmit data. Thus, if a reader is not present, not passive tag can communicate the data. Active tags can communicate in the absence of a reader.

The rest of this article discusses other differences between the two types of labels that may influence your decision to choose one type over the other when the deployment of RFID implementation.

Passive RFID Tags

Passive tags consist of three elements: an integrated circuit or chip, an antenna and a substrate.

RFID data warehouses and perform specific tasks. Depending on design, the chip can be read only (RO), write-once, read many (WORM) or read-write (RW). In general, RFID chips lead to 96 bits of memory, but can range 2-1000 bits.

The chip is attached to the antenna, whose purpose is to absorb the radio frequency (RF) signal of the reader and to send and receive data. Passive RFID tag performance is heavily dependent on antenna size: the larger the antenna, the more energy is can collect and send back. Large antennas, read ranges therefore have a higher (although not as high as those of active tags).

Antenna form is also important to the performance of the label. Low and high frequency (LF and HF, respectively), the antennas are coils because these frequencies are predominantly magnetic in nature. Ultra high frequency (UHF) antennas, on the other hand, look like old-fashioned TV antennas ( "rabbit ears") because the frequencies Ultra is the only electrical in nature.

The The third component of a passive RFID tag is called a substrate, which is usually a film of Mylar or plastic. Both the antenna and the chip is attached to the substrate, which can be considered the "glue" that holds all the pieces of the label together.

In contrast to Tag Active RFID, passive tags are usually smaller and less expensive.

Active RFID Tags

Like passive RFID tags, labels active have both a microchip and an antenna. The chips, however, are generally larger in size and have greater capacity than RFID chips in passive tags.

Active Tags have two additional components that differentiate them from the passive tags, a power supply board and onboard electronics.

The power supply is usually a battery, but can also be solar. The built-in power supply allows the tag to transmit data to a reader on their own, without the need to harness the energy of the reader himself as passive tags do. Furthermore, the involvement tags can be read from a distance of 100 feet or more, while passive tags can only be read from a peak of about 20 feet.

On-board electronics may include sensors, microprocessors, and input / output, all of which are fed by the label on the power source on board. The active RFID electronic tags that allow are used in a wide range of applications of passive tags. For example, perishable foods can be labeled with sensors that collect data that can then be used to determine the expiration dates and warn the end user that the issue can be ruined. Although many products have expiration dates printed on them, these dates only are valid if the product is stored in optimal conditions (temperature, humidity, light exposure, etc.) for that product type. Thus, the product may expire before the date printed, if not stored properly. An RFID tag equipped with a temperature sensor may be able to predict the actual maturity date of a cartoon milk, for example, which can be very different from the date printed.

If you choose to use active tags or passive RFID system is likely to depend both on his particular application and budget.
