How does the Canon Eos 7 compare with other cameras/ Digital Cameras?

My Da’d gave me his old Canon Eos 7 (takes film) with an Ultrasonic 28-200mm Lens. I’ve always used Digital for my photos and I do blow them up and frame them and I’m looking to get more serious about photography as a hobby. Is this a good starting camera to enroll in a photography course with? I’ve heard that the lens has some problems with soft edges in the images and problems with low-light situations. Any comments/advice/feedback would be appreciated.

A free quality camera is always nice, still you need to have a slightly different outlook on photography if you are doing film. If you were using a digital point and shoot and want to step into the SLR mode, you will need to study up and practice using a manually controlled device. Film and it’s developing is not cheap and easy.
It’s a great adventure if you are willing to spend the time and energy that it requires.
