High Voltage RF transformer design considerations?
I am wanting to build a high voltage transformer that:
Primary is driven with a 12V DC square wave.
The output voltage is 20kV
The secondary is grounded to the primary at one end like an auto ignition coil.
The core is a # 61 Ferrite rod core (.5″ dia X 3″ length) from cwsbytemark.com
The current is as small as possible
The transformer operates in the RF range (20-50kHz),
Basically what I need is an ignition coil similiar to an auto ignition coil but that operates in the 20kHz-50Khz range.
What things need to be considered when building this type of transformer?
How can the transformer be designed to limit current as much as possible?
What wire sizes should be used for the coils.
This design will require detailed mathematics and electronic knowledge and experience, and would take an experienced technician hours.
To limite the output current, a resistor could be inserted in the 20KV line across which develops a small voltage.
You would then sense the magnitude of this voltage and use it in a feed back loop to operate a current limiting circuit, perhaps by reducing the primary voltage below 12.
A person asking this question is not sufficiently experienced for this task.
