Can a Ham Radio G5RV antenna be mounter to an alluminum mast?
I have a G5RV mounted on fiberglass mast poles at present. I need to increase the height of the antenna but cannot because the poles are two flexible. I am considering using more sturdy aluminum in order to get the height but am concerned about RF or the metal degrading the performance. Can this mast be used?
I neglected to mention in the original post that it is in an inverted V the mast is in the center.
Yes. To use aluminum poles as end supports you should have insulators and sufficient lengths of non-conducting support line between the pipe and the antenna ends to where it won’t be a problem. If you are planning to use a metal mast as a center insulator support, the effect should be minimal on your radiated pattern. Just make sure that even in very windy conditions, there is no way the wire can contact the antenna
As an inverted V I would recommend you work to get the apex angle and lower leg height as close to nominal as possible to give you the best pattern. These online calculators can help find those numbers;

Fiberglass:
Fiberglass, as the name suggests, is a material that is made from delicate fibers of glass. It is a composite material that is used as a reinforcing agent for various polymer products. The fiberglass that is known to us today was invented in 1893. It is formed with the extrusion of thin strands of silica into many tiny fibers with small diameters enough to qualify for textile processing. There are many types of fiberglass of which the E-glass is the most widely used. Other types include the A-glass, E-CR- glass, C-glass, D-glass R-glass and S-glass. E-glass is used for glass-reinforced plastics (a composite material that is made of plastic but reinforced by glass fibers). Glass fibers are highly preferred for usage owing to their high ratio of surface area to weight. This high ratio of surface area makes them more vulnerable to chemical reactions or attacks. The most thinnest and freshly made glass fibers are the strongest because of their ductile characteristic. It follows the simple principle of “the more that surface is scratched, the less the tenacity or perseverance”. The chemistry of the fiberglass is the same with the equality in chemical properties along the fiber and across the fiber. The glass fibers and glass mouldings can be affected by moisture as it is easily absorbed and can also destroy the tiny cracks and defects on the surface and thereby lessen the tenacity. The resistance of the molten glass to shear forces is of great importance for manufacturing success. The resistance should be relatively low during drawing or pulling the glass to reduce fiber circumference. The group mouldings of fiber glass that results after stages of chemical processes may be used in mats, thermal insulation, electrical insulation, heat and corrosion-resistant fabrics, reinforcement of various materials, sound absorption, high strength fabrics, pole vault poles, arrows, tent poles et cetera.
