what is the min voltage for a tape recorder/radio to function?

there are single cell 1.5v (battery) radio recivers are available this may be the very low voltage radio.portable tape recorders(walkman) works with two cells (1.5v * 2 = 3v) this is the available low voltage tape recorder.
when the voltage delivered by the battery is low the transisters used in the radio can’t get the required bias voltage(0.6v for silicon transistors/diodes) so the radio or any electronic instrument fails.incase of walkman if the power required to run the motor goes down certain level it can’t pull the tape to the required speed(4.76 cm per second) so the audio may not be natural.
