What do AV1, AV2 and AV3 mean, re scart lead connections?

Briefly, have TV, Freeview digibox and DVD recorder – and 3 scart leads – how do you connect up properly? On TV remote set-up is says AV1 out AV2 out – to where?
I really want to record a freeview channel (do I need to be watching it?)
I only have the digibox manual – hence the question!
