Dell Laptop battery question status shows Unknow in Power Meter status?

When I take the charger out, the symbol turns from green to red. Also, on the bottom right hand corner, if I right-click on the symbol (which says on AC power) it says total battery power remaining: unknown. How can I fix this? It also appears that the battery just isn’t charging at all could the battery be fired or what?
It is the original battery that came with the computer at purchase… the computer is roughly 2 years old now

Having troubleshooted Notebook batteries before on my first Notebook PC (Gateway) and knowing that some brand new generic batteries mfg in Asia are not compatible, my guess is the battery is not compatible.

I now own 3 Dell Notebook PCs and only buy genuine Dell batteries and have never ran into incompatibility issues.

Ques: Is that the original or a genuine Dell battery that matches the one specified on Dell Tech Support for that particular Dell Notebook?
