How does a sound meter work?

I wanna know about the working of sound meter ( Sound Measuring Device) coz it seems 2 b the only instrument which works on sound. PLZ HELP ME

It’s the reverse of the way a speaker works.

Rather than electrical energy from a song being converted into sound waves with a speaker cone pushing and pulling the air….sound in the air is received by a mechanical receiver (a tiny diaphragm) responding to the pushing and pulling of the air, which then converts this pressure into electrical impulses and displays it on scale in decibels.
