Can you safely put a guitar into mini-storage without risk of damaging it?

The unit would be dry with very little (if any)moisture but it would not be temperature controlled. Its much like a garage. I have some guitars (in their cases) that I would like to get out of my house for the time being and want to know if they would be relatively safe in these conditions. They arent SUPER valuable but still I am concrened mainly about lots of heat.

The enemy of guitars is not only temperature extremes, but also rapid changes in temperature.

A guitar (it doesn’t matter if it’s electric or acoustic) is made of up of a lot of different kinds of woods and other materials. They all expand and contract at different rates.

When you have a rapid temperature change, the materials that change with temperature the most either pull away or push against the materials that are slower to change. This is how you get cracks in the finish and the wood as well.

If the guitars are inside of a storage unit, then the temperature changes will be moderated somewhat.

You didn’t say what part of the country you’re in. If you’re in the south, I wouldn’t do it under any circumstances with summer coming on. The temps inside of non-climate controlled storage units can easily get above 110 degrees in Texas in the summer. However, if the temperature where you’re at is more moderate, you might be OK.
