Is it legal to use full channel am/fm amateur mobile transceiver?

My 12 year old son got one for gift and it has a big warning in it saying that a license is required for transmission and transmission without a license may be illegal…. A relative said they don’t enforce that anymore… The last thing I need is the FCC bother me. I live in Georgia.

Yes, a license is required. It’s true that the FCC is very understaffed, so it’s likely that he could get away with it, at least for a while, but what do you want to teach your child? That breaking the law is okay if you can get away with it?
