My 1993 For Thunderbird makes a loud tapping noise when I start the car, could anyone tell me what causes this?
This car has low miles for it’s age. It’s prettymuch in pristene condition, but this tapping noise stops after the car is completely warmed up. Can anyone help with the possible cause of this tapping that happens soon as I start my car? Thanks. Linda H.
Not enough oil is getting to your valve lifters fast enough. Some people call that “tappet” noises. That is generally not a problem but is bothersome. See all the oil drains out of your engine and settles way in the bottom of your engine in the oil pan. When you start your engine, oil must get from the very low pan way up to the top so your valve lifters can be lubricated. They will make a bit of a noise if they are not oiled properly.
You might want to have your oil weight checked and if there is not enough oil in the pan you might have a leak problem. You might not have enough oil to properly lubricate the engine. Maybe your oil pump is not pumping its correct volume.
Older low mileage cars frequently develop problems like this so hang in there.
