Is there a small shortwave radio that is ipod capable?
I’m looking for a portable shortwave radio that has either a MIC input or AUX jack so that I can use it as an amplifier on my travels. Either new or vintage is ok.
Amen – Commies are not cool!
Anyway – here is a great little SW radio with a AUX input:

The wonderful world of shortwave radio
Welcome to the wonderful world of shortwave listening (SWL). Test your listening comprehension of foreign languages; listen in on foreign news, or varied opinions and interests of ordinary people around the world, test your IQ by evaluating policy of their country through the eyes of an outsider, then launched a further discrimination in the eyes of national and geopolitical situations it is always interesting hear news about their country of foreign professionals abroad. Listen to historic and cultural events as they occur in distant places, 24 hours days without leaving the comfort of your bed, in English and indigenous languages as well.
There is nothing expensive about shortwave radios. In autumn 2009, I bought a paperback novel-sized Coby AM / FM / SW radio for only $ 16, for several years in the heart of downtown, I was shopping at the $ 8 and $ 10. And there's always the elegant and immortal Grundig radio band in the world, available in many styles, sizes, functions and price ranges, some at a cost not much more than $ 16. Grundig makes the best, but are the choice for travel, office or living room. Coby give products a fine performance at surprisingly low prices, I prefer to carry a miniature Coby AM / FM in my briefcase when I'm on the move and under pressure. I do not care damaged or lost a job that so easily replaceable.
Listen to direct emissions from Cuba, Germany, Canada, Japan, Spain. Listen to an orchestra German in Vienna, Mozart or Beethoven live!
There is much enthusiasm in the waves swept to capture the diversity of ideas, issues and concerns presented in the emissions. When reception is good, even the cheapest model can bring the emission of weak signals of the most remote places in the world (this search as a hobby is called "DX"). Shortwave listeners also can receive two-way communications between amateur radio operators in both oral and Morse forms of code.
The reception is technically the best of the night when the thought of broadcasting waves traveling through night skies over the mountains and the sea gives a touch of drama to SWL and comfort of community radio. In SWL at night, I love this mysterious hollow echo-like quality emissions. It is as if coming through a tunnel. Perhaps this effect occurs because in his long journey and robust by any means empty space packages wave is being transmitted to your receiver to get slightly out of phase, which means you hear a sound coming from two different places at once, hence the effect echo.
Radio Shack or any electronics store that sells something antenna shortwave radio. It is a six up to ten feet long filaments about copper wire, plastic coated, wound on a reel small apartment. Hang the coil at or near the window, a cable free end to the telescopic antenna the radio and tune into a broadcast. For just a few dollars CA optimizes the receiving antenna, but reception is poor, even at night. The difference it makes is incredible. You can make your own simple "antenna cable" with a headphone cord discarded waste: just spend a long cable network tactics over his window, and expose about one inch of copper wires at the other end. Wrap around the tip of your radio telescopic antenna. Sometimes I wrap a few thick rubber bands around my portable radios to help insulate against shock or breakage if they should fall.
Listen to the effects on receiving the ionosphere, the layer of Earth's atmosphere that extends from about 50 km (30 miles) of land area about 500-800 km (400-600 miles) depending on the amount daylight. It is in the sub-layers near the short wave propagation depends.
Reflect on the fact that radio waves are a form of radiation Electromagnetic and light, and therefore travel three hundred million meters per second (186,000 kilometers per second). Sound waves travel at different speeds through different materials: air, water, wood, steel. The denser material, the faster they move through it. However, a radio wave not a sound wave.
Create a simplistic but useful image shows a short sine waves (S-shaped) energy waves rippling through space, ranging from about 10 meters (10 meters or 30 feet) about 100 meters (100 yards or 300 feet). That's pretty long, actually, but to be useful to the radio, transmitted waves must have a relatively high power high frequency sense, energy and wavelength is inversely proportional to each other. Announcement of very low frequency waves as used for maritime transport or navigation, are surprisingly long, the order of 1000 m (1 km or three fifths of a mile) to 10,000 meters (10 kilometers or about 5 miles.)
I really hope you enjoy this test, the reader, and relaxing hobby, reasonable shortwave listening. That encourages me to write a future on the issue of short-wave radio, for example, the physical characteristics of radio waves (its length and energy or frequency), the simple architecture of the atmosphere, how it spreads waves of steel cables, and the two issues that are presented to SWL (fade and interference), the uses short-wave radio (military communications, two-way voice communication by Morse code as a hobby and for use in emergency situations, broadcasting illegal, etc), what are radio waves (including visible light, TV and microwave as well) and why we use the electromagnetic spectrum. These are five or more core subjects related to short-wave radio.
It is a very simple study, in fact, a repetition of certain acts over and over time. DXing.com ( http://www.dxing.com ) is an established and regularly updated website by Mr. H. Helms that includes everything and more about SWL. So do not go out and spend lots of money on books. Use your local library, or type "shortwave listening" in your engine search to find something that suits you.
