Can anyone tell me how to remove old varnish from brass?

I have a solid brass etergaie that is about 6ft. tall which holds 6 glass shelves. It has been stored for years in a small shed and the varnish has turned very dark. HELP!

Straight acetone will take the lacquer off. You will want to find a company that can re-lacquer it for you. If you leave it without the lacquer, the brass will tarnish and it will be a pain to polish.
