Changing an automatic transmission to manual?
Is this feasible? I have a ‘98 Chevy 1500 pickup, automatic, and the transmission went out. I’ve always loved manual transmissions, how much would it cost to have the automatic transmission replaced with a manual? I’d supply the transmission, so don’t include that in the price. Thanks for any help!
don’t forget you have to cut out the floor pan on the trans tunnel for the shifter, you need to replace your pedal assemblies, not sure if the clutch is hydraulic or cable but you need to run that from the clutch pedal to the slave cylinder or shift fork. also you have to trick the computer into thinking it’s in park or else you can’t get the key out of the ignition or you won’t be able to start the car. you may need a new pcm as well. lot of work but would be a fun project. price wise can’t say, depending on the shop rate i’d say 10 hours times whatever the shop labor rate is. good luck!

To start a refrigeration compressor requires a high level of current milliseconds. Any resistance in the wiring, or the inadequate size of the cables will that the voltage drops below the level for precision temperature when the compressor tries to start.
If the compressor is a Danfoss BD50 or BD35 to conduct a test fault diagnosis using a small LED connected to the terminal D + Y on the controller. If you have a previous model, Danfoss compressor BD2.5 or ACC, start with testing the power supply using the following guidelines.
To properly test the power supply to a Danfoss or ACC 12V or 24V power system, the following test procedure should be carried out. This will confirm if the power supply system is free from evil, loose and / or high resistance connections. Pressure reading on the panel or in stacks no sense, as is the fact that you can have the new batteries, battery size and capacity of the bank The battery is also irrelevant.
The process of
1. Turn off (or remove the fuse) provision DC power to the system.
2. Disconnect one of the thermostat is in the driver (if you can, make a small loop to link terminals thermostat (C & T).
3. Using a multi-meter, read and record the voltage at the battery terminals.
4. Then connect the multi-voltage DC meter reading to the supply terminals (+ and -) in the compressor controller, so you can be left connected and controlled.
Turn 5. In the switch (or install the fuse) for the system.
6. Check that the tension is the same as the strain of looking at the terminals of the battery.
7. Noting the multi-meter, reconnect the thermostat lead (or your link out of the loop) and monitor the voltage before, during and after the start of the compressor or tries to start.
Interpretation of the results of the power supply
§ The power supply is Free to lose, bad, and / or high resistance connections, the voltage reading will remain very stable and decreased only slightly when the compressor starts. As rule, in a 12v system that reading should not drop below 12v.
· If, when the compressor attempts to start, the voltage reading drops significantly, bad electrical connection should be suspected. If the voltage drop is sufficient to fall below 10.5 V (23v) Cutting incorporated in the controller, the compressor will stop. (At this point, the tension can return to it's original reading.) Fan (or in marine applications of the pump) would continue for approx. 45 seconds and then the compressor will attempt a new beginning. If the voltage is over before starting to 11.5 V (23.5v) the compressor is started or attempt to re-start new.
WARNING If you are using multi-meter is a digital model, the voltage may drop below 10.5 V (23v) and then recover very fast to register on the meter. This means that the compressor is trying to start, then stop due to low voltage, voltage returns to its "original value, and there being no significant decrease in the meter.
· If the compressor starts and runs fine but stops after a short time, or when the battery charger is turned off, the voltage may be gradually falling below 10.5 V (23v) cutoff point when the compressor tries to restart the system. This must be identified in your meter.
§ The nature of the fault is such that the voltage reading drops below 10.5 V (23v) even before compressor attempts to start a very bad electrical connection should be suspected. This is because even small load of fan or pump relay, unless 0.5 amps (0.25 amp), is apparently sufficient to significantly reduce stress.
What to look for
A loose and / or high resistance connection can be anywhere between the battery supply and controller. that is, a bad breaker or fuse, connection screw or corrosion, a poorly made or corroded crimp connection, a section of damaged cables, etc.
