With today’s economy, is it useful to still take part in unpaid internships?

With everyone pinching pennies, including myself, do you feel that it is still important to take part in unpaid internships? I personally have the opportunity to take a summer unpaid internship in Albany, NY (the capital building) and shadow a senator.

You would be absolutely crazy to turn that down. The contacts you can make in that setting are impossible to place an accurate value on. Unless you are a real meat head and can’t make use of associations and opportunity, then you would be crazy not to go for it. It’s the best investment you can probably make. Take the long view and you can go far, take the short view and you will go short.
