Many technicians are confused about how to really read a zener diode code. There are many types of code number indicated in the same body. The appearance and the form of a Zener diode being wrong sometimescan be a normal signal diode. To differentiate, is watching codenumber that is the body if it is a normal diode or diode Zener. Thanks to the manufacturers in their main boards are printed with the word ZD referred to zener diode and 'D': a diode.

However, from my circuit board experienced some form marked "D" can also represent Zener diode. This misled a technician into believing a zener diode is actually a diode. We, as a technician or engineer must know or be sensitive about the brand. The only way to tell is by reference the code number printed on the body component of a semiconductor data book. Without data book is very difficult to know the actual zener diode voltage. If you do not have the book data can go to Google engine search and write code and hope you can find the answer there! The Zener diode is incorrectly replaced his team can cause a malfunction and sometimes even blow your computer. Time and money are lost due to lack of knowledge to identify the right zener diode voltage. 5.1 = 5.1Volt zener diode

Zener diode 5V1 = 5.1Volt

12 = Zener Diode 12 Volt

12V = 12 volt zener diode

BZX85C22 = 1 diode zener Watt 22Volt (see with Philips Semiconductors Semiconductor Master Replacement Guide)

BZY85C22 = 22Volt 1 / 2 watt Zener diode (see Philips Semiconductors Semiconductor MASTER Guide replacement)

Note: There is also BZVXXXXX number and have to find where the ECG SEMICONDUCTOR BOOK.

1N4746 = 18 V 1 W zener diode (see with Philips Semiconductors Semiconductor Master Replacement Guide)

6C2 = 6.2 Volt Zener diode. (If you look at the zener diode code is written as 6C2 reading up and down) Do not read from bottom to top otherwise the value you get is 2C6 which can not be found from data book!

I think many will wonder how can I get the voltage for the code of 6C2. Still refer to ECG book, you have to look for number HZ. That is to say, instead of finding 6C2, search of HZ6C2 and get the answer! The lower voltage zener I found was 2.4 volts and the highest was 200 Volt 5 watt.

Conclusion: Be alert to check the part number of a zener diode. Do not always assume that a small signal diode is always a Zener diode. Carefully observe the mark on the board principal and reading the zener diode part number refer to the book of semiconductors, preferably ECG SEMICONDUCTOR DATA book you can get from your provider of electronic local. With this in mind, success is the correct voltage of a Zener diode.
